Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Policy Statement

Varel Engineering Co. Ltd will ensure gender equality and women empowerment in the social, economic and cultural spheres as envisaged in the Constitution of Kenya. We will endeavour to establish and strengthen Affirmative Action efforts aimed at reducing gender inequalities and access to productive resources such as labour, finances, information and technology. The development of this policy is influenced by international and national instruments for GEWE that emphasize gender mainstreaming as the key strategy for the achieving development. It is also informed by the constitutional dispensation and transformation, the socio-economic environment and other national orientations.

Objectives of the Policy are to:

  1. achieving equal pay for work of equal value;
  2. preventing and eliminating violence and harassment at work;
  3. creating a harmonious work–life balance for both women and men;
  4. promoting women’s equal representation in leadership at work;
  5. investing in a future of work that works for women.
